More Prankster Planet Stuff

Here are episodes 2 and 3 of the second season of Prankster Planet, a segment of the PBS show The Electric Company. My job this time was arranging backgrounds and creating props in Flash.

Goodwin vs Badwin: Episodes 7 & 8

The Internet's favorite square-shaped, phallic-armed babies are back in season 2 of Goodwin & Badwin. It's 4 episodes loaded with more laughs, more mayhem, and more political incorrectness, and ponies!

Once again, I worked as a character animator on the last two episodes.  This time, my responsibilities included posing the main characters and animating them with the assistance of the talented Matt Simpson.

A word of advice: these episodes are not for the easily-offended. Especially easily-offended bronies.

Dungeon Rampage! - My first gig as a background artist

Here's an awesome short project I was part of while working at Primal Screen. As the title suggests, I illustrated all the backgrounds. It is part of the trailer for Dungeon Rampage! by Rebel Entertainment.

Prankster Planet Season 2 launches

This year I had the pleasure of working at Primal Screen, Inc. here in Atlanta. One of the projects I worked on was the second season of The Electric Company's Prankster Planet. I was in charge of designing backgrounds reusing props from the previous season as well as creating some new props and, in some cases, some effects animations. In this clip you can see some of the backgrounds I worked on. I'll be posting the new episodes as soon as they're available online. Otherwise, you can watch them Mondays on PBS.

Goodwin vs Badwin Episode 3

The third episode of Goodwin vs Badwin is out now! This time I had the chance to be a character animator for the first half of the piece (yes, that includes the mom) while the second half was animated by my friend, the very talented Matt Simpson. Enjoy!

New Show on Mondo Media!

Last October I had the great fortune of meeting Tony Grillo, founder and supreme ruler of Flinch Studio, and in December he let me part of this new series for Mondo Media (famous for Happy Tree Friends and Dick Figures), called Goodwin vs. Badwin. This is a joint venture between Flinch, Gene Fowler's Loogaroo Studio and Style5.tv, which produces the show. This is the second episode of the series (click here to watch the first one) but it's the first one I actually worked on. In this episode I tuned up the animation of the two main characters, animated their lip sync, and added some effects.

Well, I hope you enjoyed the show. If you'd like to see more (or at least keep me from being unemployed) remember to give it a thumbs up in youtube and like it on facebook (I don't have an account but I bet you do). Also, tell your friends!

For more information on the show, click here.

Double Bounce Walk Cycle

Hey, folks! It's been a while since I last posted anything animated so here's a walk cycle I did yesterday. Enjoy.

Really Short Animation

Finally, as promised, here's the animation. I did it in Flash CS4 with the audio track from last month's 11 second club competition. You can view a larger version in youtube. Unfortunately youtube cuts off a fraction from the last second, but I can't complain about a free service, right? Right. By the way, feel free to visit my youtube channel to see some of my older stuff.

Character Design Update and Animation

I eventually simplified my previous character designs to make them more appealing and easier to animate.

In this piece I wanted to play a bit more with Flash so I added patterns to the clothes by using mask layers. The lighting in the room was created using a movie clip in blend mode (multiply) on top of the original background.

And voilà!

Two Short Flash Animations

For this animation I wanted to see how much I could do without doing much. The animation here is simple, if a bit stiff, but my focus was on the gag. I also got to play with creating a smoke effect in Flash. I did submit it to the 11 second club animation contest since I got the track from them. Needless to say it didn't do very well, but I still like it.

This other animation was another gag I did for my other blog. It is a visual joke about swine flu and it originally came with a fake public safety message in Spanish which I took out in this clip to focus only in the animation. The voice used is actually mine. (Yes, even the squeal.)

Animax Flash Character Animation Test

This is the second part of the Animax Animation test, which I found in the Cold Hard Flash Forums. See what happens when Dex tries to explain the yoga tree pose.
All critiques are welcome.

Flash CS4 IK Walk Cycle Test

Finally! I've got Flash CS4!

People in Adobe finally came to their senses and added inverse kinematics in Flash. I can't imagine how Flash animators managed to live without it, but one thing is for sure: I won't have to purchase Animer Studio after all. Yay Flash!

Anyway, here's my first animation test using Flash IK armature. It took me some time to get the hang of it (my mom was ticked off because I didn't leave the computer yesterday), but I finally did it.

Don Pepito - lip-synching test (Spanish)

This is a lip-synching test I did in Flash. This is a traditional children's song in Latin America and Spain. It's usually sung by clowns. I apologize ahead of time for the brief bathroom humor but I couldn't help myself.

For your convenience here's a translation of the lyrics:

-Hello, Don Pepito.
-Hello, Don José.
-Did you go by my house?
-By your house I went.
-And did you see my grandma?
-Your grandma I saw.
-Goodbye, Don Pepito.
-Goodbye, Don José.

(Repeats)
